Vector EPS

Vector EPS files typically come from vector-editing applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia FreeHand or CorelDraw. When saving vector EPS art for placement into another application, it is best to make a file which is as self-contained as possible.

The document color mode should be CMYK, not RGB, HSB, or LAB, etc.

Save with application version compatibility as high as possible. We generally save with the most recent version.

The PostScript level should be 2 or higher.

If you have linked images, be sure to include them in the EPS.

Rather than embed the fonts, just be sure to include the font files with the supplied artwork. You may also outline all text in your document, however this will increase your file size and complexity, which may be problematic for the RIP; if you have a full page of text, please do not outline it- just include the fonts.

Saving a preview (sometimes called a header) allows an application to display a low-resolution version of the grpahic file when it is imported. 8-bit previews are color; 1-bit ones are black and white. If you save a color document with a 1-bit preview, it will show up on the screen in your working application as black and white, but the original (color) information will be sent when it is printed.

You should preserve appearance rather than paths when working with transparency.

You do not need to save additional CMYK Postscript information, but make sure everything in your document is defined in printing colors: CMYK or gray, not RGB or anything else.
