Linked Graphic FilesLinked graphic files contain picture and graphic information which is placed in the working files. When you place a graphic in QuarkXPress, for instance, the graphic file's location is referenced in the Quark document and a low-resolution (smaller file size, low quality) version is displayed to show you approximately where the graphic will sit when the file is printed. In order for a high-resolution (higher file size, high quality) version of the file to be imaged, Quark will need to have the original graphic file available to send when printing. Linked graphic files are made in a variety of applications. They come in two categories: Vector Format and Raster Format. Vector files contain data which describes lines and shapes, whereas raster files contain data which describes pixels arranged in rows and columns. Here is a list of file formats typically used to create linked graphic files. vector formats are listed first and raster formats second. They are listed in the order of most common usage at Sunset Printing. You may click them to find issues and techniques associated with each one. If you want to use a format other than those listed, please call 503-231-8328 and speak to a prepress technician. Following these instructions will help us expedite your project and will help insure that your proofs and finished product come out as expected.
